NEWS: PrairieCat Closed for Memorial Day (May 31)

Action: Informational

PrairieCat staff will be off on Monday, May 31, 2021 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. PrairieCat will not have any support coverage on this day. For standard support issues please place a Help Desk ticket and your issue will be addressed on the next working day.

RAILS is also closed for this holiday so there will be no delivery services on Monday, May 31 either.

NEWS: Email Phishing Scams Potentially Directed at Patrons

Informational – e-mail phishing scams potentially directed at patrons

Apparently some patrons may have received an e-mail from scammers indicating that the patron owes money for an overdue book. And therefore trying to solicit money from those patrons.

We have included two example files in this message – one is the example of a scamming attempt and one is a sample of an official overdue notice generated and sent from PrairieCat.

What is LIMRiCC? The Library Insurance Management and Risk Control Combination (LIMRiCC) was established to provide conventional  insurance coverage and/or self-insurance for claims against or by its participants. Libraries are pooled together as one organization in order to provide lower premiums.

REMINDER: Timing of Overdue Notices

ACTION: Informational, Reminder Notice

In August 2020, PrairieCat changed the timing of when overdue notices and bills were created. Pre-COVID, the first overdue notice was created 7 days after the item’s due date. To accommodate quarantine periods and to prevent patrons receiving that first notice for items that had been returned but not yet checked in, we extended when the first overdue notice was created to 14 days.

The PrairieCat Engagement Committee is seeking program proposals for the 2021 PUG Days | Virtual. Please share this email with your library staff and networks!! Although we won’t be gathering in person, we look forward to idea sharing and collaborating with our library colleagues from across the consortium.

TRAINING: Checking in Materials

ACTION:  Action Required

When checking in materials that have holds for other libraries, it is not necessary to check items out to PrairieCat Union List libraries. The only time you should check those materials out to the library is when you see the word “checkout” in the message. See Procedures for Union List, ILL Barcode and SHARE libraries in the Circulation I training manual.

Please share this will all staff who check in materials as this continues to be an ongoing problem.

NEWS: FY20 Return on Investment Docs Available

PrairieCat created a Return on Investment document to highlight the progress the organization made in FY20 ending in June 2020 and some of the ways your library benefited from membership in PrairieCat. This is an “at a glance” document that should be easy to share with your library’s board and stakeholders to emphasize the benefits of PrairieCat.

NEWS: PrairieCat Holiday Closure - Thanksgiving

PrairieCat will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th. There will be no on-call support on those days. Only emergency (full system outages) issues should be called into the on-call phone support on those days.

Standard support issues should be conveyed via the Help Desk app by submitting a ticket which will be addressed on the next working day (Monday, November 30th).

Thursday, November 26th is also a holiday for RAILS staff so there will be no delivery services on Thanksgiving.
