ALERT: SYSTEM AVAILABLE: Sierra Update to V5.1 has completed

The update of the Sierra production software to version 5.1 has completed.

You may launch the Sierra application at your locations at your convenience. The update will download new java files to the client so the initial launch of the Sierra software may take a bit longer than usual.

If you utilized the off-line client during the time we were down - please contact Ed Zanelli to coordinate processing of your off-line file(s).

ALERT: SYSTEM DOWN: Sierra Update to V5.1 is still in progress

ALERT: SYSTEM DOWN: Sierra Update to V5.1 is still in progress

PrairieCat staff apologizes that III (Innovative Interfaces Inc.) is still in the process of updating the Sierra production software to version 5.1.

The software update began around 3:00 a.m. Central Time. As usual our primary goal was to have the update completed prior to your library opening today.

We are in communication with III and the update is still proceeding and they are doing all they can to expedite this process in any way that they can.

NEWS: Biblioboard Recovering the Classics ebook collection

In 2018 PrairieCat loaded the Biblioboard Recovering the Classics ebook collection into the database. These titles came to PrairieCat via a program RAILS was working on at the time to test out geo-locatable materials in Illinois libraries. When the records were loaded an item record* for each circulating library (Fully Participating and Basic Online) was created in the process.

ALERT: First Overdue Notice moving to 14 days

ACTION: Informational

RAILS has increased the required quarantine period for delivery from 3 to 7 days, beginning Monday, 8/31. Given this increase, PrairieCat will change our first overdue notice period from 7 to 14 days. This should lessen the issue with patrons getting overdue notices on materials that are actually returned but have been sitting in quarantine for 7 days. Of course, we still recommend that you back-date materials when you check them in from quarantine, and use your fine-free login to do so.

NEWS: Conversion of generic records

ACTION: Informational

PrairieCat staff are working on converting generic bibliographic records in our catalog to library-specific bibliographic records. For example, if your library’s hotspots were on a bibliographic record that was used by other libraries, they have now been moved to their own record that is reserved for use by your library. There are several advantages to having library-specific records for items such as hotspots, stem kits, library of things items, and other unique items:

For the purposes of filling holds for other libraries, it is not necessary for you to continue to refer to the RAILS Delivery Spreadsheet to see which libraries are open or closed. You can simply fills holds as you normally would.
