I wanted to reach out to fellow children’s programming professionals to brainstorm and share creative solutions for offering engaging programs on a limited budget. Like many libraries, we are navigating the challenge of providing high-quality programming for children without a large budget.

One approach that’s worked for us is incorporating DIY craft activities using inexpensive materials we already have in our library, like paper, crayons, and old magazines. 

What about you? Have you found any low-cost yet high-impact program ideas that get kids excited? How do you make the most of limited resources while keeping programs fresh and fun?

I wanted to start a discussion around a topic that many of us likely face—budget constraints when planning adult programming. As libraries continue to navigate tight budgets, it can be challenging to provide the same range of enriching and diverse programs for our adult patrons without the necessary resources.

At our library, we’ve been trying to get creative in finding low-cost or no-cost alternatives that still provide meaningful experiences. I’m curious—how do you all handle these challenges? Do you have any tried-and-true strategies for maintaining a strong adult programming calendar without breaking the bank? What partnerships or funding sources have worked for you?

Anybody have any fun crafts or program ideas for this year's iREAD theme?

We do a lot of take-and-make crafts for teens here, so here are some ideas I've got in my spreadsheet to share:

*Mini Swirly Health/Mana Potion Bottles

*Tiny Art Contest: Video Game Edition

*Enderman Minecraft Plushie (made with felt)

I've also been looking into finding someone to do a virtual program for teens on video game design, but I haven't had much luck with it.
