PrairieCat is partnering with Demco to offer a free book care workshop with Kimberly Young, the Book Doctor. This event is for member library staff. 

10 AM – 12 PM: Book Care and Repair Workshop

Demco’s Book Doctor workshop is intended to give participants training on book care, protection, and repair to keep your collection in circulation longer. This workshop will provide a hands-on experience in which participants will get ideas for protecting books ahead of circulation and become familiar with several types of repairs through tried-and-true techniques. Workshops are tailored to your specific needs, but commonly include: basic page repairs, tip-ins, hinge and spine repair, book jacket and laminate application, and spine reinforcement. Course notes including links to other free resources such as videos, product directories and repair guide will be provided.

12 PM – 1 PM:  Lunch

1 PM - 2 PM: More Books in More Hands Workshop 

Discover how to maximize your library's impact with Demco’s Book Doctor Kimberly Young. This course will dive into strategies to increase book circulation and make your library more accessible to patrons. You’ll learn the art of weeding your collection to make your library easier to navigate and enjoy, gain insights into community demographics through collection usage, and explore how to ShelfSpark your library using collection merchandising and wayfinding solutions. By the time this session is over, you’ll be equipped with practical tools to revitalize your library and connect more people with the joys of reading.
