Program Description
This session will provide an overview of basic preservation principles. This will includes an introduction to preventative preservation methods, including best practices for care and handling, proper storage environments, and disaster planning and response. The session will also include a brief introduction to simple book repair options, and resources for further learning. The presentation will focus on circulating book and paper collections.
60 Minute Session | Session will be recorded and available by October 1, 2022.

At the end of this session, participants will understand basic care and handling best practices and be familiar with simple book repairs.
Presenters
Shelby Strommer | University Illinois Urbana-Champaign Library | Collections Care Coordinator
Shelby is the Collections Care Coordinator in the Preservation Services unit at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Library, and is a member of the National Heritage Responders. She holds a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan, where she specialized in Preservation of Information. She previously worked in the Preservation & Conservation Department at the University of Iowa Libraries.
