Committees and Users Group Restructuring

Submitted by Elizabeth Smith on

PrairieCat has been analyzing our existing standing group and committee structure. We put together an advisory group made up of members of our committees and standing groups, and they recommended changes to the Administrative Council. The Council met on 10/2, and made the following decisions regarding standing groups and committees:

  • The Resource Sharing Committee will be sunset. Discussions and decisions around resource sharing will be made by the Circulation, User Experience (UX) and Tech services committees going forward. The Engagement committee, already responsible for PUG Day planning, will also be charged with the annual Summit planning.
  • The Training Committee will be sunset.  Again, appropriate training discussion and decisions will be made by the Circ, UX and Tech services committees.
  • For the Technical Services Committee, the results of the recent member survey showed strong interest in a broader Technical Services User Group, with the largest group of respondents supporting a blended approach. The Technical Services Committee will continue as an elected group responsible for formal decision-making, while participation in Technical Services discussions will be opened to the broader Technical Services community. This essentially brings back the former Technical Services User Group (TSUG) approach while retaining the elected committee’s role in formal decision-making.
  • User Experience (UX) will not change.
  • Engagement will not change, other than to be charged with the annual Summit planning.
  • Circulation will not change. Members will continue to be elected as they are currently. The meeting is open and members involved in circulation are encouraged to attend.
  • Finance will not change (this is a board committee).

If you are on one of the committees being sunset or want to get involved, please consider joining one of the other standing groups.
