ALERT: Sierra Update to V5.1 on Wednesday, September 16, 2020

PrairieCat will have III (Innovative Interfaces Inc.) upgrade the Sierra production software to version 5.1 on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

This is an upgrade where the system will be down while the software is updated. We have asked Innovative to begin the server upgrade at 4:00 a.m. Central Time.

We will send out an ‘all clear’ communication that the upgrade has been successfully completed once we receive notification of completion from III.

Our primary goal is to have all libraries online for circulation when your library opens that day. We ask libraries to upgrade after receiving the ‘all clear’ message. Please limit the number of systems that you update initially to help limit the impact on the Sierra server itself as well as the network traffic at your locations. We also ask that non-essential workstations get updated later in the day.

With Sierra there is no interaction that library staff need to do to receive this upgrade. When the Sierra client is started it will download new versions of Java Runtime files to the system as required to accommodate the new version. There is a slight delay to the launch of the Sierra client due to this ‘behind the scenes’ activity.

Once the new files are downloaded to each client that client will be utilizing the new version of Sierra.
