Training and Outreach Coordinator
Full Time: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $50,628-$63,285/year, depending on qualifications

PrairieCat has offices in Coal Valley, IL and Bolingbrook, IL. This position may work from either location. 

Organization Overview: One hundred thirty-six libraries in Illinois share an integrated library automation system known as PrairieCat. By sharing the cost of central site equipment, computer and database maintenance, staff, and telecommunications, libraries of all sizes (including public, academic, school and special) have found it possible to join the consortium and to realize the advantages of automated resource sharing.

Position Overview: The Training and Outreach Coordinator helps PrairieCat attain our organizational goals by designing and implementing PrairieCat training programs for member libraries, as well as performing outreach to existing and potential members.  Duties include working with our Learning Management System to develop and refine online training courses, leading membership training and conference committees, onboarding new libraries, and assisting with support and continued communications to existing libraries. The position also performs site visits to members and serves to advise libraries on various aspects of their membership in PrairieCat.

Requirements & Skills:

Education: BA/BS required.  MLS preferred.

Experience, Key Skills and Abilities:

  • 2 – 5 years library experience; customer service experience required
  • 2 years of experience with library automation systems strongly preferred
  • Experience in developing and delivering training
  • Knowledge of library technology, terminology, and procedures
  • Knowledge of member relations management
  • Experience working with and supporting clients with various levels of technical expertise
  • Experience producing and analyzing statistical reports
  • Graphic design and layout skills in print and electronic media preferred
  • Fluency in design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva) and experience with a CMS preferred
  • Experience using video editing software such as Camtasia, etc for the production of training materials
  • Ability to use extensive workplace technology including email, Internet, office software, remote collaboration tools, and other software
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of staff
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with member library staff, and to maintain good working relationships with partner organizations
  • Takes a collaborative approach to problem solving, with the emphasis on building consensus, relationships, and results
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment, and  work without close supervision
