NEWS: Instructions for Handling Holds Returned by Delivery

RAILS will be returning materials to libraries on 06/18 and 06/25. As you check these materials in, you may find that some of them were on their way to another library to fill a hold, but are being returned to you without having reached the requesting library. The attached instructions explain how to handle these holds.

Visit the RAILS COVID-19 page for the latest on RAILS Delivery: https://www.railslibraries.info/issues/178451

UPDATE: Status of Notices and Paging Lists

Action: Informational

PrairieCat requested that Innovative restart the system wide paging lists and notices on Tuesday, June 16 in preparation for the return of RAILS delivery and ILL. However, the restart failed initially, which resulted in some timing issues with the notices. We apologize for any confusion this may cause your patrons as they start to receive notices via email, text, and phone. Below is the current status of these processes.

Please contact the PrairieCat help desk HelpMeNow@prairiecat.info with any issues.

NEWS: OMA Remote Meeting Legislation

Action: Informational

On Friday, June 12, 2020, the Governor signed P.A. 100-0640 (SB 2135) into law. This new law amends the OMA to expressly authorize public bodies to meet remotely without the otherwise required quorum present at the meeting place. The law became effective immediately. There is a detailed discussion of SB 2135 here.

UPDATE: Hold Available Notice - Modified

Action: Informational

Due to the varied services (curbside, walk-in, parking-lot pickup) our members are providing for their patrons, the text on the Hold Available Notice has been modified to the following. This is a system wide change that is not customizable per member.

New Text:
The following item you requested is available for
pickup at your library. Please contact your
library to receive pickup instructions. Thank you.

UPDATE: Paging Lists and Notices did not Compile

Action: Continue using Local Holds List and Notifying Patrons of Holds Pickup

Innovative turned on notices, but they did not compile. PrairieCat staff notified Innovative that the process failed, and they are investigating it further. PrairieCat will notify members when the system wide paging lists and notices are fully functioning.

ALERT: Notices and Paging Lists Resume 6/16

Action: Action Required

PrairieCat is resuming the system wide paging lists and notices on Tuesday, June 16. This is in preparation for the return of RAILS delivery and ILL.

Please contact the PrairieCat help desk HelpMeNow@prairiecat.info with any issues.

PAGING LISTS

UPDATE: Problem with Holds Resolved

The issue with item level holds placed via Encore has been resolved! Libraries can continue to use your local holds list to process holds.

UPDATE: Problem with holds

Action: Action Required

Known Issue: We are still experiencing the issue where patron-placed holds in Encore are being created as item level holds on other libraries’ items. This means these holds will not appear on your local holds lists and you will not know your patrons have these holds unless they call to inquire. These holds are a mix: some are for titles your library does not own, some are for items you do own but those items are not available, and a few are for items you do own that are available.

ALERT: Problem with Holds

Current Issue: PrairieCat has identified a problem where holds placed by patrons in Encore are being placed as item level holds on other libraries’ copies—even if you have an available copy at your library. Because of this, these holds will not appear on your holds list.
